My tutorial works on a stockinette stitch which I chose for aesthetic purposes. You can change colour using what ever stitch you choose. To do the stockinette stitch you'll also need to see the tutorials for

Would this technique work if I needed to change colors in the middle of a row and then change back to the original working yarn after a few stitches?

you know, I haven't actually attempted that yet. I've done it with crochet and not cut off the old yarn, but that makes a slightly messy back. I have to feel like it would since I've taken apart machine made knit sweaters that just knot the first colour to the second and keep going.

It's not too much of an issue of the back is messy since it's for a plush XD But thanks for replying! This tutorial is really helpful~ I've looked through your other tutorials and they are great too :)

Ummmmmm This looks really helpful but uhhh... I've never ever knitted/crocheted anything ever. I'm getting a "Knook" in a few weeks. It's a crochet type needle that can crochet AND kni and you only need one of them for that soooo how does that hold up to this tutorial???? Um heres a link to some chicks explaining knooks and doing swatches and stuffs: [link]

I knooked before but I think I tried with a normal crochet hook and a paperclip or something. Whatever I did, I don't recommend my technique c;

As far as starting with knooking you might have a bit of difficulty. My recommendation is to either pick up a cheap hook or pair of needles and spend a week or so understanding how that technique works. That way you either have a working knowledge of how the slipknots in knitting form the different pattern or are comfortable with the hook.

Personally, I would pick up a pair of needles. Then switching to knooking would feel so much faster and more productive (which would be my main reason for knooking), but I don't think starting straight out with your knook would hinder really you too much.

As far as this tutorial goes, it won't really help much with knooking, since they're very different techniques. The yarn will be doing the same things, but in very different ways. Like I previously stated, the understanding of knit techniques that you can gain from a knit tutorial like mine will help you when you're confused or have a half baked knooking tutorial but that's really the extent.

I know it's a wall of text up there, but feel free to ask again if I'm unclear or didn't address something.

hm well my mom really doesn't want to by me needles and stuff. she's already off at the idea of all the yarn I want. we're getting a knook for FREE to try out.so I guess I'll have to make that work. UGH why is it so hard for little kids to come up with WORKING ideas? *explodes brain by thinking too hard*

I'm in the same boat on the quilting front right now, so I totally understand. But once you've slowly built up a supply base to work from though any project becomes possible almost as soon as you think about it *rainbow shoots across sky overhead*

starting is always difficult that way >:\
